Our PVC Compounds Take On The High-Speed Marine Industry

When a marine client approached IPC with a unique challenge, they weren’t looking for an off-the-shelf solution. They needed a compound that could deliver performance, precision, and speed.

They wanted to develop a durable nose component for high-speed boats: a racing baton designed to slice through water, reduce drag, and increase performance. For this specific application, they needed a trusted PVC material supplier who could develop a compound that could withstand pressure, resist saltwater corrosion, and maintain shape and strength at high velocities.

The team got to work, engineering a custom formulation from scratch. The result was a sleek and hydrodynamic part extruded from a rigid PVC compound that performs under punishing marine conditions without compromising flexibility or weight.

Performance In Every Molecule

Speedboats need to use robust, lightweight materials that can perform as hard as the engines powering them. The racing baton, which is positioned at the front of the hull, is the boat’s first contact with the water. It needs to be able to resist water impact, reduce turbulence, and hold up to repeated exposure to sun, salt, and spray.

Much to our client’s pleasure, our precision-engineered PVC compound made all the difference.

The material was light enough to maximise speed yet tough enough to take a pounding and maintain its structure. The compound we supplied was also able to deliver a smooth enough surface to keep drag to a minimum.

In addition, the marine-optimised compound was able to remain stable in high UV and fluctuating marine temperatures.

Marine Innovation Backed By Smart Materials

Custom PVC solutions have long been used in the automotive, construction, and electrical sectors. But using novel PVC compounds in the marine racing space is pushing material science into new territory.

The success of this racing baton product proves how adaptable and high-performing PVC can be when it’s correctly formulated.

The PVC component that was extruded from the compound we supplied has now become a key part of a high-performance marine system, where the design and the compound work together to achieve speed, safety, and consistency.

IPC’s work in the high-speed marine sector highlights the role that advanced PVC materials can play in niche but demanding applications.
